Having a good looking web site is important but at the same time you need to make sure that the web site is optimized well for search engines. Search engines are a huge source of potential clients. You need to make sure that your web site is displayed for keywords that are relevant to your business on the search engine results page because you may end up getting a lot of customers from here. The best way to go about this is to keep certain things in mind while creating the web site itself. The best time to make changes is during the creation process because everything will fit in smoothly in the end like a jigsaw puzzle. If you need to make major changes later, it will take quite an effort to move things around and create space for the things you want to implement in the web site.
Avoid putting all your text embedded in the graphics of your web site. You might be losing out on precious keyword and keywords phrase if you do this. Although embedded images may look good, you need to make sure that you have relevant text and similar keywords on the text part of the web page. Many web designers design the web site without giving much thought to how search engines will view the web site. Embedding most of the text into images may make the web site look good but it will fail to be recognized by the search engine spiders. The best way to do this would be to include text in images as well as have enough text on the web page itself.
Meta tags are another important element that you need to look into. Search engines like Google does not consider meta tags but other search engines might look into this element while deciding your ranking. The Description tag is important and you need to include relevant keywords in this tag. ALT tags are tags which describe the data that is on a graphic on your web page. In other words, in case the graphics do not download when a visitor visits your web site, then the text in the ALT tags will be displayed in place of the graphics. Search engines spiders read the text within the ALT tags as normal text. So you have the potential of improving your ranking if you use relevant keywords within these ALT tags. However, do keep in mind that the text has to be relevant to the image also.
Including text links within your web page content can be extremely useful. These links are usually linked to other pages within your web site. Search engine spiders usually crawl through your home page first and then go to the other pages in your web site. The links can help the spider reach relevant content faster within your web site. Hence, including a lot of text links within your home page can be helpful for achieving better ranking on search engine result pages.
